Second career

Too old to get hired? Too young to retire? I need to take a new approach.

Since coming back to Canada from England two years ago, finding and holding on to a job has been a challenge. I was fortunate to be employed for the majority of 2024 but sadly that ended in December.

The job market is really rough. I've heard that from everyone and I've experienced this first hand. I apply for several roles a day and I just wait for the automated decline email message. I can't take it personally. I'm certainly not alone.

At 52, I'm going back to school. Starting September, I will be a Payroll Compliance Professional candidate. It's a role that every company needs in one form or another. AI is starting to eat into this market, but I anticipate I can get ten good years out of a role before the cyborgs come for me.

I'm not much of a Friends fan, but this seems appropriate here.

I can't wait for school supplies and some new clothes. Sears and husky jeans are still a thing, right? Oh, wait. Nope.
